Sorry for the late post!
After their 9 month doc appointment, we received the Go Ahead for giving the girls table food. He suggested we feed them cheerios, too, to help improve their pincer grasp. On my way home from work later that day, I bought 4 boxes of Cheerios and was very excited to see them play with it and attempt to eat it. When we laid it out in front of them, they didn't seem all that interested, so Kyle and I grabbed one and put it in their mouths. Lord, have mercy. You would have thought I forced them to eat rotten eggs. They did NOT like it and tried to spit it out. Harper started gagging simply because it was on her tongue. She gagged so hard she forced herself to throw up. Of course, I was the one holding her so she threw up all over me. Um...yuck. It was disgusting and smelt awful. Spit up, I could handle. Baby vomit...not so much.
Later that night, we decided to give them some cooked rice mixed with the baby food just to give them something with texture. Once again, they had a strong aversion to it. They started turning their face away from us when we were feeding them and they tried to spit out the rice. I was so excited about feeding them food! We went out and bought some puffs. It's cereal that dissolves much quicker than Cheerios. They took to those better than the Cheerios.
We got to celebrate Thanksgiving during this month (at the very beginning of it of course)!! It was so much fun. The girls didn't always do so well because they were forced to be surrounded by people they weren't used to and they got pretty fussy when Kyle or myself weren't holding them. It's nice to feel so needed but at the same time, it can get pretty frustrating to always have to hold a baby.
They pull up on everything. They are both starting to let go and stand alone for several seconds at a time. Harper did it first, followed by Emmalyn soon after.
They have very specific things about them that I love. Emmalyn's happy face is undeniable. She has a very distinct face she gives me when I'm about to nurse her and it's seriously cute. She also does this grunt noise to get someone's attention. Her face gets really serious as she forces this noise to come out.
Harper loves to kick her legs. I call her my little froggy sometimes. She does it when I lie her down, she does it when we pull her out of the bath, she does it when she's standing making her dance. Her dancing skills...seriously cute. And it is even better when my mom is bouncing up and down dancing, and Harper starts to copy her.
When I act like a monster, and Harper is in her crib, I crawl around it and growl, trying to get at her. She is hilarious. She flips and rolls around trying to get away from me. All the while, she's giggling and squealing.
Still in size 2 diapers. Could probably fit in size 3 soon, if they don't already.
They are enjoying all their food! We have started making a majority of their baby foods. It is too expensive to buy it all. Even though they are enjoying fruit, I make sure that not every meal has fruit mixed in. Usually when I give them something that is only fruit, they make a funny face at first. I think the sweetness is hard for them to take at times. They quickly get used to it though, and they lick their lips more than if it was just vegetables. They've also improved their pincer grasp by the end of their 9th month and are able to pick up their puffs and eat them quickly.
They are crawling machines!! They are so fast, too. Harper, especially, enjoys going on a hunt for someone. If I leave the room for any period of time, you can hear her little paws moving in your direction..doesn't matter where you are!
They are starting to mimic things you do. Sometimes when I start clapping, they will start clapping. They also love to use their fingers to move their lips and make a noise. If we do it first, they'll look at you and then usually start doing it, too.
Harper is still leery around new people. However, we've noticed that she is much more accepting towards blonde women. It's so weird. Maybe it's because I have blondish hair? We aren't sure her reasoning. Apparently blonde women are nicer and won't hurt her?
Wearing sizes: 6, 6-9, and 9 month clothes. They are growing more and more into 9 months and some of their 6 month things dont fit anymore.
Our house finished being built!! However, we can't close until Dec. 23.
10 months down, and I still love being a Twin Momma. We still get stares and comments whenever we go into public. Kyle and I still feel like celebrities, although I cannot understand why. Twins are cool, don't get me wrong, but it isn't like they have 1 head to share between 2 bodies.
Kyle has been making comments lately... "Wouldn't you like a little boy???" -- It just makes me laugh.
I always have to respond, "Don't you remember what it was like when they were newborns? We were miserable!"
We are excited to see what this next month will bring. Not only will the girls get to experience their very first Christmas, but they will officially be living in their first permanent home!! We are excited to get settled.
Also during this next month, Harper will have her eye looked at by an eye doctor. She still has her blocked tear duct, so we are hoping to get that cleared up this coming month!
